Making Standing Wheelchairs affordable was Karman’s primary motivation for designing and manufacturing our leading XO series of stand up wheelchairs.  With the break through in technology and advancements in both medical and automotive technologies, Karman’s R&D department challenges the very industry to not only adopt, but lead this in a way that revolutionizes how people are helped with Assisted Technology.  We need ever lasting electric energy power on our electric powered wheelchair, so here is the solution concepts.

The new standing wheelchair prototype depends on PV cells to convert sunlight into electricity. Unlike solar thermal energy which converts solar energy to heat for either household purposes, industrial purposes or to be converted to electricity, PV cells directly convert sunlight into electricity. When sunlight (photons) strike PV cells, they excite electrons and allow them to flow, creating an electrical current. PV cells are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon and alloys of indium, gallium and nitrogen. Silicon is the most common material used and has an efficiency rate of 15-20%.

Aircraft Material Engineering Body Structure

Riding in the ultimate perpetually generating energy source from the sun is only the start.  As the R&D team designs the new frame around a proven metal, (T-6 Aircraft grade aluminum), our AME technology utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the wheelchair. Making this a lightweight sturdy design coupled with suspension techniques and properties pushing KD/KS Delta testing and X-BAR / R-BAR data driving our reliability and sound dampening into the frame of the chair.

Proven automotive design and techniques are at the root of our Standing Frame design.  Adopting these techniques prove that no other standing wheelchair will come close to the reliability, comfort and safety provided in our design.

S-Sport System

Energy when needed; the Plus S-Sport System enhances the Wheelchair’s performance.  Users may use the S-Sport button and the double clutch EV is primed for a boost of speed. With over 98% of the torque available through the first 5% of engagement, the potentials of our highest grade motors inspired by Bosch and Remington, is achieved effortlessly.  Whether making a pass, being in a rush to get somewhere, or simply just to have some fun, we want to put the power in your hands.

Integrated Karman Motor System  KMS

Karman’s KMS system is a simple and compact design. Instead of having multiple locations for the control unit, battery, and trans-axle such as most common power wheelchairs, the KMS system combines the three functions into one lightweight, ideal design that eliminates clutter, and unnecessary weight.

Due to the PV system and additional power available, KMS system also allows of other plug-ins such as USP, Apple Interface, and other direct voltage to ensure that daily creature comforts will not be limited to your geographic location. Karman believes that your mobility access and ability should be driven as any leading tech products available on the market today and at your disposal day in day out.
