Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

COPD

Short for Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; this disease affects the lungs, which blocks airflow in the throat, chest, and nasal cavities. COPD is actually a leading cause of death worldwide; it can start with symptoms of emphysema and bronchitis.

If someone you know suffers from COPD, you may want to look at a wheelchair as a mobility options for them. If you or someone you know has trouble breathing or if they cannot move on their own, you may want to look into a transport or companion wheelchair to be able to push them if they are not able to propel on their own.

If a severe case of COPD develops you may also want to look into a reclining or tilting wheelchair, to allow the person to lie down and breathe more comfortably.
