So you want to learn how to properly close or fold your wheelchair? This guide should help you do just that without causing damage to the frame or your fingers.

To close a wheelchair, you want to make sure that the brakes are applied on both sides of the chair as a safety precaution before moving forward.

Stand in Front of your Wheelchair

You will need to stand in front of the wheelchair while facing the frame of the chair. Grab ahold of the seat of the chair by pressing one hand onto the seat upholstery, one hand should be positioned towards the front of the chair, while the other towards the back.

From there, to make sure there is no issue while closing the wheelchair, you want to SLOWLY lift up the seat, the seat should begin to collapse in the middle of the seat and the wheels should start to move closer together.

Now you can fully raise the seat upholstery by putting more pressure in the middle of the seat.

That’s it, you are now able to properly fold or close your wheelchair without assistance.
